Barcelona's Les Tres Xemeneies

Barcelona’s former Les Tres Xemeneies thermal power station is set to begin a new chapter as Catalunya Media City, a dynamic centre for digital innovation, education, research, and culture. Designed by MARVEL Architects and Garcés–de Seta–Bonet, the project preserves the site’s monumental turbine hall and iconic three chimneys while adapting the industrial complex for contemporary use.

Through flexible architectural interventions, integrated greenery, new public spaces, and sustainable design strategies, the redevelopment creates a dialogue between Barcelona’s industrial heritage and its creative future. Rather than erasing the past, Catalunya Media City demonstrates how adaptive reuse can transform historic architecture into a foundation for innovation, community, and a more sustainable urban future.
